Actuatedby a desire to bring into closer co-operation the women of Upper Pinellas, Mrs.C.E. Ware and Mrs. Ralph Richards conceived the idea of a DemocraticOrganization for women, and to perfect the plan a meeting was held at the homeof Mrs. Richards on Monday afternoon, September 9, 1940.
The following officerswere chosen:President Mrs. C.E.Ware, Vice President Mrs. Ralph Richards,Treasure Mrs. W.H.Groves, Secretary Mrs. Neal Alexander, Corresponding SecretaryMrs. Frank Cooley.
The organization fromhence forth to be known as theDemocratic Women’s Clubof Upper Pinellas County. The first event plannedwas a membership tea with Mrs. Chester McNullen, Chairman who also served as acounty prosecuting attorney.
Thus A GrandIdea Conceived In the Minds Of Two Grand Women Was Brought Into Existence.
The object of the Club:To further good citizenship, to facilitate the broader interpretation ofdemocracy and to study the science of politics.
